Microinverter Warranty Due Diligence for Distributors and OEM Buyers

A longer warranty headline does not automatically create a lower-risk distribution program. The commercial value depends on what is covered, when the period starts, what evidence a claim needs and who pays for diagnostics, freight, labor and replacement administration.

TMG product pages state that warranty terms are confirmed per project, market and order configuration. That is the right point to negotiate a written schedule linked to the exact model and sales channel.

Normalize the warranty before comparing

Create a matrix for each supplier:

  • Legal warrantor and service contact
  • Covered models and territories
  • Start date: manufacture, shipment, installation or commissioning
  • Standard period and any paid extension
  • Covered defect and available remedy
  • Exclusions and required installation conditions
  • Claim notice period and evidence
  • Repair, replacement, credit or refund sequence
  • Freight, customs, removal and reinstallation responsibility
  • Replacement-unit warranty period
  • Transferability to the end customer

If a term is silent, do not score it as favorable. Mark it unresolved.

Price the operational exposure

The hardware may be only part of an RMA cost. Model technician travel, troubleshooting time, roof access, customer communication, reverse logistics, import charges, spare inventory and time without generation.

Cost layer Supplier question Distributor decision
Diagnosis What data proves a defect? Train support and retain logs
Replacement Advance or return-first? Set spare stock
Freight Who pays each direction? Include landed RMA cost
Labor Is field work reimbursed? Set installer terms
Obsolescence What replaces an old model? Plan electrical compatibility

Connect claims to traceability

Record serial number, model, batch, firmware, installation date, module allocation and commissioning evidence. Define how failed units are quarantined and how the supplier communicates root-cause findings. Aggregate claims by failure mode rather than treating each ticket as isolated.

ISO 10002 provides guidance for complaints handling within organizations. It does not define a microinverter warranty, but its process approach is useful when building intake, escalation, response and improvement controls.

The microinverter RMA evidence checklist separates lost telemetry from true failure and preserves serial-level findings before a unit is returned.

Control product and document changes

A warranty comparison assumes the shipped product stays within the approved configuration. Require notification of material, component, firmware, factory, label and manual changes. Link this to the golden-sample and pilot controls in the OEM sample evaluation plan.

Agree the channel handoff

State what the distributor promises the installer or end customer and ensure it does not exceed the upstream warranty. Prepare local-language claim instructions, safe isolation guidance and a decision tree separating monitoring issues, installation defects and suspected hardware failures.

Review TMG's product range and company information, then send the destination markets, annual forecast, service model, branding scope and desired spare-parts arrangement through TMG Contact. Warranty terms should be closed with the quotation, not inferred from a marketing page after shipment.
